Windsor Bed

Spindle Bed

Spindle Bed: Also called a Windsor Bed, Sunburst Bed or Fan Bed, is pictured queen size, in cherry with ash spindles.   I have made these beds, and also individual headboards, in a variety of woods, but the spindles have always been ash.  The design is the result of a customer showing me another fan design and describing what she didn’t like about it.  I “repaired” the design and this is the bed she got.  It  has become one of my best selling designs.

Traditional Windsor chairs have steamed bow backs with spindles.  The result is a light, flexible and strong chair.    The bow of this bed is laminated from 10 pieces of 1/10" thick veneer rather than being steamed.  The bow and spindle construction, however, still supplies  flexible strength and beauty.  A center leg beneath the bed helps the slats to support the box spring and mattress.  I have also built the bed as a "platform" bed to support a mattress without a box spring.

Mission Bed and Chest

Mission Bed and Chest:   The bed and chest pictured are cherry with birdseye maple slats and drawer fronts. The bed pictured is a custom full size bed sized to accept a long (80") mattress .  I later made a nightstand to compliment the chest of drawers.   The Mission Bed and Chest pictured here are the only two items professionally photographed from a  house-full of Mission inspired furniture I designed and made.  I do have a slew of amateur photos which I would be glad to e-mail.  Items include two more bedrooms, a dining room, a kitchen table and chairs, a built-in office, and other occasional tables, and seating.

This suite of bedroom furniture was designed for my very best customer; I had previously designed a whole house full of Mission inspired furniture for them. This Sleighbed , the Low Chest of Drawers, Lingerie Chest, and Bedside Chests are all pictured in butternut giving them a beautiful nutty soft brown color.
